Booking Your English Language Test
To book your English language test for GMC registration, you can choose between the Occupational English Test (OET) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Below are the details for each:
OET
Test Venues:
The OET is a1vailable in two delivery modes:
– On paper at a test venue
– On computer at a test venue

Test Dates:

Fees:
The OET costs $587 AUD (approximately £330). A currency converter is available on the OET website.
Booking Process:
- Check venue capacity on the OET website.
- Read the OET terms and conditions and the OET Test Regulations.
- Prepare the following:
– A credit card or payment details
– A digital passport photo (Photo ID guidelines are available on the OET website)
– Your identification document
- To book your OET, register or log in on the OET registration page.
IELTS
Test Venues:
IELTS can be taken on paper or computer in over 140 countries, with more than 1,600 locations available. To find details of test locations, visit the official IELTS website.
Note: Doctors aiming to register with the General Medical Council must take the Academic version of the IELTS examination.
Fees:
IELTS Academic and General Training fees are £195 (this may vary depending on location).
Booking Process:
- Find your nearest IELTS test location on the IELTS website.
- Register for your IELTS test:
– You can register and pay online or download an application form to print, complete, and submit to your local test centre.
- Once your application has been processed, the centre will send you a written confirmation of the date and time of your test. The Speaking and Writing tests typically take place on the same day. If this is not possible, the tests will occur within seven days of each other.
