How to Prepare for a Video Interview
Tips on how to successfully prepare for an online NHS interview.
- Choose a Suitable Location
Select a quiet and appropriate setting with minimal distractions for your NHS video interview. Opt for a tidy room with a neutral background and good lighting, either natural or from a nearby source, to ensure the panel focuses solely on you.
- Check Your Setup and Technology
After selecting a suitable location, ensure your technology is functioning correctly. It’s crucial to have a reliable internet connection and familiarity with the video conferencing platform being used for the interview. Update your software if necessary, and test your computer’s camera and audio. Position your camera so that the upper third of your body is visible to the interview panel. On the day of the interview, make sure your computer or phone is fully charged or plugged in to prevent any power issues during the session.
- Minimise Interruptions
Demonstrate professionalism by eliminating potential disruptions. Silence or turn off your phone, close any computer applications that might produce notification sounds, disable any alarms, and inform others in your household about your interview to ensure they remain quiet during the session.
- Dress Smartly
Dress comfortably yet professionally, as you would for an in-person interview. Your attire should reflect the same level of formality expected in a face-to-face meeting.
- Make Preparation Notes
Have a copy of your CV at hand and review the job description before the interview. Make notes highlighting your suitability for the position and prepare any questions you might want to ask the interviewers.
- Conduct a Practice Call
Familiarise yourself with the technology by conducting a practice call, perhaps with a friend or family member. This will help you determine if your location is appropriate and if any adjustments to lighting, audio, or camera angles are needed.
